BACKGROUND
Tomohisa grew up with his sister, Rina, and his mother, Naomi. Growing up in Chiba, Japan, it gave him a love for the sea. Taking that love a step further, he did part time jobs along the beach, from surfing lessons, to cleaning the docks of various ships. All in the name of supporting his family. When the time came, however, his mother insisted that he venture out into the world and had him transfer to a high school/university in Kyoto. Shy, almost to the point of being a hermit, he made few friends. But those that he did, he treasured. It was here that he met his wife.
She was a few years younger than he was, and a bit strange herself. But that didn't stop Tomohisa from pursuing her to the best of his ability. She finally gave in and went out with him. It was the happiest day of his life, at least he thought so at the time. By the time he was twenty, they were married. She'd just graduated high school, and he was in his sophomore year of university. Even then, he didn't really know what to do with his life. He enjoyed boxing, so would work in various fight clubs to help supplement their meager income. But then the day came when she told him she was pregnant.
He stopped the fight clubs, got a job as a waiter instead. It was the happiest time of his life. Eight months later, it was the worst. A few weeks before his wife was due to give birth, they were in a car accident. The accident put her into premature labor, and the doctors couldn't save both. She insisted they save her daughter. That day was the happiest and worst day of his life. He gained a beautiful baby daughter, but he lost his precious beloved. He took a leave of absence from school for a year, trying to get his life back into order. How did a single father take care of a baby and still go to school? He didn't know, but he managed it somehow.
With a new sense of purpose, he dived into his studies, taking as many art classes as he could, as well as photography and graphics classes. Excelling in this new field, he found that he actually enjoyed it a great deal. Graduating at the top of his class, he sought out someone to take him on as an assistant. As luck would have it, there was a prominent fashion magazine that intended to move their offices from Tokyo to New York City, since that was where most of the fashion designers seemed to gravitate to, aside from Paris. So, Tomohisa said good bye to his family, packed up his daughter and himself, and moved to the Big Apple. His English has gotten a lot better since high school, but it still isn't perfect.
It's been a year since then, and he is now a quarter of a century old. His baby girl, Mari, isn't such a baby anymore. She's already begun walking and talking. Their life in NYC was calm, but after the magazine he worked for was bought and closed by another company, he took this as a chance to make a new start for the two of them. His old friend from university was looking for a roommate, so he packed their bags and moved to Seoul.
A new country and a new language. He was glad that he'd taken the time to learn his friend's language, otherwise things would have been much more difficult. With his savings, he managed to start up a freelance photography studio. Now he worked with models, musicians, idols, fashion designers...just about anyone. He works out of his apartment mostly, with a developing studio in his bedroom. (His photography is mostly digital, but when the need for film developing is called for, he has a booth in his room to use for that. Needless to say, all chemicals are locked away so the children can't get into them.)
When he isn't working, he enjoys cooking and going to the gym. He still enjoys boxing, but only does it at the gym and no longer frequents fight clubs. He regularly tries to get his roommate to come with him on such outings.
His favorite pasttime, however, is to take his daughter to the playground with a book. Playing with her, reading to her, these are the quiet moments that he cherishes and wouldn't trade for the world.
FACTS
* Tomohisa loves clothes. If you ask him to go shopping, he will most likely drop everything (except Mari) and go. He has a large clothing collection, as does his daughter. Any time he sees something cute or adorable, he'll buy it for her. Most of his clothing consists of t-shirts and leather jackets and jeans. On the rare occasion that he goes out, he does have a few nice suits, but for the most part he is rather laid back in his attire.
* He loves pizza. During the year they spent in NYC spoiled him to what pizza should taste like. Consequently, he refuses to order any kind of 'take out' pizza, preferring to make his own. In high school he was a horrible cook, but he's become quite good at it through the years.
* Besides photography, singing is another of his passions. He'll sing anything; nursery rhymes for the kids, pop songs, even commercial jingles. He loves to go to karaoke, and will drag anyone within the vicinity that's willing.
* At one time considered becoming a professional boxer. Bu then his wife became pregnant and that was just not a profession he could allow himself to follow. There were too many dangers involved in the sport, and he didn't want to leave his child an orphan. But he still likes to venture out to the gym and spar with a boxer or two on the weekends.
